PARIS — Organizers of Oxford Hills Relay For Life say they hope to reach the $50,000 milestone in this year’s fundraising.

“Last year, we had over 325 participants and raised just over $48,000. This year we are hoping for over 350 participants and $50,000 is our goal,” Heather Bossie of the Relay For Life of Oxford Hills said.

The annual event, which raises money for the American Cancer Society, begins at 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, and ends at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Gouin Field in Paris.

The money goes to cancer research, education, advocacy and service.

Teams have been organizing and raising money with suppers, toll booths and other events throughout the year.

According to a statement from Bossie, a large number of events will be held Friday night, including a live broadcast from 5 to 7 p.m. by WOXO and Darling’s Ice Cream truck, which will be on hand to raise funds.

“We have a lot of fun activities going on throughout the night, including karaoke,” Bossie said. Karaoke will be held from from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., along with showing movies “Frozen,” “The Goonies” and “Pacific Rim.” The there will be Zumba, Bakwa, musical chairs and a tug of war tournament, she said.

Bossie said this year’s theme is Hope for the Holidays and each team will have their campsite decorated accordingly.

The event will conclude Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast.

The luminaria ceremony will be from 10 to 10:30 p.m.

“This is the time where we honor those who have survived and remember those who we have lost to this terrible disease,” Bossie said in the statement. “Luminaria bags will line the track with the names of everyone people want to honor or remember. It is a beautiful part of our relay event.”

Luminaria bags will be available for purchase before the event by going to www.relayforlife.org/oxfordhillsme or they will also be available the night of the event at the track under the luminaria tent.

The Survivor Dinner will be held at the Gouin Field that night, starting at 5:30 p.m. The dinner is for anyone who has had a diagnosis of cancer.

“We honor our survivors and their caregivers with this dinner where there will be a speaker and a wonderful meal prepared for them,” Bossie said.
