1944 – 2014
LEWISTON — Roland P. LaBonte Jr., 70, a resident of Lewiston, died Sunday, June 1, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin surrounded by his loving family following a long illness.
He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 12, 1944, the son of the late Roland and Marie Jeanne (Baril) LaBonte, and had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He was educated in Lewiston schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1964. He served with the U.S. Army for almost two years. He was employed for over thirty years at Rowe Ford as their head mechanic. He then was employed in the maintenance department at Schooner Estates and later for the Auburn School Department.
He was a parishioner of Holy Family Church.
Roland enjoyed working on cars, snowmobiling, dirt biking and most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Linda L. Davidson of Lewiston, whom he married on July 5, 1997; a stepson, Mark Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Rolande Lachapelle and her husband, Maurice, of Monmouth and Rejeanne Bosse and her husband, Roger, of Lewiston; three nieces, Christine Lachapelle of Winthrop, Lisa Begin and her husband, Michael, of Minot and Tina Begin and her husband, Greg, of Lewiston; one nephew, Jerry Lachapelle and his wife, Kelly of Maryland; one great-niece, Emma Begin; and five great-nephews, Nicholas and Nathan Lachapelle and Ryan, Matthew and Anthony Begin.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Romeo LaBonte.
