1929 – 2014
SOUTH PARIS — David Stearns Stone died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, May 31.
Although there were very strong ties to the Norway area, David was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Feb. 20, 1929. Raised in Alameda, Calif., and Haddonfield, N.J., he attended Washington College and played semi-pro football. His education was cut short when he moved to Norway to take care of his ailing father.
He worked for his cousin at C. B. Cummings for a short time and then as the personnel manager at A. C. Lawrence. He retired to take care of his father-in-law. He then worked for Pike Industries and finally as a school bus driver.
Dave was known for his sense of humor and easygoing manner. He spend a lot of time flying his plane from the family camp on Kezar Lake in Lovell and New Jersey. He was a dedicated Boy Scout leader, and supported and coached his children’s sports endeavors.
He is survived by his daughters, Laurie Lacer of Manchester, N.H., Sharon Jacobs and her husband, Scott, of Granby, Conn., and Karla Horecky of South Paris; and sons, David E. Stone and his wife, Melissa, of South Paris and Doug Stone of Lewiston. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his mother, Josephine Stearns Stone; his father, Carl E. Stone; his sister, Mary Murphy; wife, Marjorie Martin Stone; and most recently, his grandson, Jasper Stearns Horecky.
The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the Norway Center for Health and Rehabilitation and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for supporting us and making our father more comfortable in his last days.
