AUGUSTA — Three companies are expected to offer health care coverage on Maine’s federally-run exchange next year.
The Maine Bureau of Insurance said on Tuesday that Harvard Pilgrim Health Care has filed to join nonprofit co-op Maine Community Health Options and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield on the state’s exchange under the federal health care law in 2015.
A spokesman for the bureau says plans must be reviewed by the state and receive certification from the federal government before they’re finalized.
Ed Kane, Harvard Pilgrim’s vice president for Maine, said barring any unforeseen circumstances, the nonprofit insurer will offer plans on the exchange starting in January.
More than 44,000 Mainers signed up for coverage on the exchange during the six-month open enrollment period, nearly doubling federal health officials’ target.
