Lewiston finished the regular season with a 15-7 win over St. Dom’s, giving the Blue Devils a 5-7 mark to end the year.

“We took care of it on our end,” Lewiston coach Ben Fournier said. “We won last week and today. So that’s what we had to do. We got it done and we’ll see what happens.”

The Blue Devils finished the regular season with three wins in their last four games and the victory boosted them to eighth in Eastern A. Lewiston’s hopes now hinge on whether Deering, currently ninth, can earn enough points in its regular season finale to move back in front. Deering doesn’t finish its regular season until Wednesday against Westbrook.

“I honestly don’t know,” Fournier said. “I’d like to think we control our own destiny and it gets us in, but who knows what could happen in the standings.”

For St. Dom’s, a win likely would have put the Saints in the tourney. Instead, St. Dom’s (4-8) remained ninth in Eastern B behind North Yarmouth Academy. The Saints’ chances appeared slim, but St. Dom’s remained hopeful following the loss.

“If we would have won, we would have been in the seventh spot based on the Heal points,” St. Dom’s coach Jamie King said. “It sounds like, looking at what’s going forward, we have a shot at the eighth spot and playing Maranacook.”

Reilly Bolduc led Lewiston with five goals and an assist Tuesday. Alex Mills had four goals while Max Bolduc added three goals and two assists.

St. Dom’s got two goals each from Kenton Ernst, Brendan Donovan and Adam Vining.

The Saints hd rallied with a solid second quarter to tie the game, but watched Lewiston break the game open with four goals in the third quarter. Though the Saints got within 11-7 early in the fourth, Lewiston finished strong to secure the win.

“The second half went well,” Fournier said. “We just played better. I told them to challenge more on ground ball and fight for them. St. Dom’s, they might be the lesser team on paper but when it comes down to the Lewiston-St. Dom’s game, everybody is going all out all the time.”

Lewiston built a 6-1 lead in the first quarter. Goals from Reilly and Max Bolduc started things off. After the Saints got an Ernst tally, Alex Mills scored twice and Reilly Bolduc and Roman Dennis each scored to build a 6-1 lead. The last three goals came in a span of just 19 seconds.

St. Dom’s turned the tide in the second quarter and quickly erased the lead.

“We’re a young team and we’ve been saying that all year,” King said. “Stopping the bleeding a little bit with a timeout helped. Just telling the boys to move the ball around and be confident with it, that helped us.”

Ridge Servidio, Donovan, Ernst and Vining all scored to trim the lead. Then Donovan scored from the left side with 4:06 left in the half to tie it 6-6 with a man advantage.

“We got a little comfortable with our lead,” Fournier said. “Kudos to St. Dom’s, they picked it up. They were falling behind a little bit. Obviously, it’s a rivalry game. They played well. They played hard. They were scrappy on ground balls and got after it. My kids got caught with their pants down a little bit.”

Lewiston got a Max Bolduc goal with 1:08 remaining in the half to give the Blue Devils the lead and the momentum at the break.

“That set the stage for the second half,” Fournier said. “That was important. That’s what we wanted to do – get that last goal and get that momentum for the second half.”

Lewiston opened the third quarter with three goals in the first 1:40. Cam Boucher got the first one. Reilly Bolduc netted one just 26 seconds later, and Brendon Croteau made it 10-6 with 10:20 left. Max Bolduc finished off a Reilly Bolduc pass with 2:51 for an 11-6 lead after three quarters.

“Numbers wise we’re a little low,” King said. “Talent-wise, we have enough to keep going, but as the periods go on and you start taking a lot of penalties, you start giving up a lot of goals.”

St. Dom’s got one back to start the fourth on a Vining goal, but Lewiston got two from Mills and two from Reilly Bolduc to finish the win.
