NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Valencia L. (Bernier) Despres, 87, of Canton, Conn., wife of the late Adelard J. Despres, died Friday, May 30, at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, Conn., with her family by her side.

She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 1, 1927, daughter of the late Emilio and Anna (Chouinard) Bernier, moving to West Hartford, Conn., in 1955, where she resided for 37 years. She spent her retirement years in Canton, Conn., and cherished all of her family and friends.

Valencia worked at Travelers Insurance for many years, prior to her retirement, and was a member of the Travelers Club. She was also a member of the Church of Saint Ann in Avon, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Canton Seniors Club.

Valencia was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and loved to spend time with family and friends.

She is survived by her three children, Elaine Moreland and her husband, Dale, of Canton, Conn., Daniel Despres and his wife, Elizabeth, of Tewksbury, Mass., and Roger Despres of Lowell, Mass.; two grandchildren, Jonathan Moreland and his wife, Sarah, of Torrington, Conn., and Jessica Moreland of Canton, Conn.; two great grandchildren, Alexis and Jonathan Moreland; her sister-in-law, Claudette Guerrette and her husband, Robert, of Lewiston; many nieces from Connecticut and a nephew from Florida; as well as many beloved friends.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her grandson, Jeffrey Moreland; and her brother, Roger Bernier.
