“Lewiston and Auburn must be booming,” said a former resident to a Lewiston Journal reporter. “I rode down Lisbon street, up Main street and back over the bridge into Auburn and thru the principal business streets and I didn’t see a sign ‘To Let’ in any of the store windows.

50 years ago, 1964
A new business will undertake operations at the Continental Mill in Lewiston in the near future, as the result of a merger of two concerns, it was announced today. Dean R. Quinton of the Quinco Fabrics of Auburn, said that the Maine Fabric Sales Corp. of Lewiston will begin operations on a small scale within three weeks. The corporation for the past year, Quinton said, has operated as a selling house for the Auburn concern. The Lewiston concern involved is the Camden Yarn Co., formerly the Max Miller Co., operated by Herbert Miller. According to Quinton, when in full operation, the new mill will employ between 20 and 30 persons. A total of 80 looms will be in use. It was reported that the corporation will produce colored yarn and various kinds of household fabrics.

25 years ago, 1989
Four students of local high schools will compete June 10 in the U.S. Championships of the National Forensic League in Golden, Colo. They are among 14 students from Maine to qualify for the event. Competing will be Betsy Edgecomb, Lewiston High School; Jason Bermudez and Debbie Elz, Edward Little High School; and Matthew Garcia, St. Dominic Regional High School.
