1926 – 2014
FARMINGTON — Perley L. Corkum Jr., 87, a resident of Jay, passed away Wednesday, June 4, in Farmington, to be with the Lord.
He was born in Livermore Falls on Aug. 10, 1926, a son of Perley Sr. and Florence Payne. He was a 1945 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. Perley was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. He married Josephine Berry, of Livermore, on April 20, 1947. They made their home at Belleview Drive in Jay.
He was employed for 32 years at International Paper Co. at the Otis Mill in Jay; he continued working for 10 years for James River Paper Co. after they purchased the Otis Mill. He retired in 1988 as foreman of the electrical department. Prior to this, he was employed briefly at the Portland Shipyard and Record Foundry.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Perley is survived by his wife, Josephine Corkum, of Jay; his sons, Dennis Corkum and his wife, Jill, of Rockland, Kent Corkum and his wife, Michelle, of Jay and David Corkum of Jay; grandchildren, Dana Kennedy, Dylan Clark, Cassie Frost and Jonah, Quinn, Micah, Veronica and Noreese Corkum; a great-grandson, Adrian Corkum; sister, Audrey Stevens, of Jay; special niece, Patty Kilkenny, of Jay; a special brother-in-law, Robert Berry and his wife, Marie, of Connecticut; sisters-in-law, Joan Corkum of Wayne, Marion Patten and husband, Otis, of Connecticut, Edith Cordero of Florida and Geneva Sharpe of New York; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ronald Corkum.
