Jaden Johnson, 8, of Auburn, left, Elijah Darling, 8, of Auburn and others look on as Jeanne Lothridge of the Maine Cooperative Extension Service pours water into a beaker at Auburn Public Library on Thursday to signify the amount of water they think exists in the inland seas. They guessed how much was in glaciers, fresh water and groundwater. Lothridge put an identical beaker next to their guess and filled them with the actual amounts. It was one of the exercises she did with the class to help them better understand and better appreciate how little usable water there is on Earth. Next week, they will make dragons from recycled materials. The monthlong Young Scientists Club is one of many programs offered throughout the year.
