BANGOR — The American Legion of the State of Maine will hold their annual state convention June 13-15 at the Cross Insurance Center.

Led by State Commander John Hargreaves of Farmingdale, a good representation of members from across the state including Legionnaires, Auxiliary ladies, Sons of The American Legion and American Legion Riders will be in attendance.

The program will start promptly at noon Friday, June 13, with a grand opening ceremony.

Friday and Saturday will feature awards to some impressive individuals for achievement in their particular field, such as Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician of the Year, Educators of the Year, our own surprise announcement of Legionnaire of the Year and many more.

Gov. Paul LePage, first lady Ann LePage, senators Susan Collins and Angus King, and representatives Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree will be addressing the group.

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap is also scheduled to appear along with other dignitaries including Brigadier General James Campbell and Bangor City Council chairman Benjamin Sprague, Bureau of Maine Veterans’ Services Director Peter Ogden, VA Center Director Ryan Lilly and Maine Veterans’ Homes CEO Kelley Kash.

National guest this year is the leading candidate for National Commander of The American Legion, Michael D. Helm from Nebraska speaking to the delegates on Saturday.

The program on Saturday will conclude with the election of the new State officers for the coming year and their formal installation ceremony on Saturday evening.
