1931 – 2014

JAY — Joyce A. Michaud, 82, of Jay and formerly of Millinocket, and known to everyone as “Nanie,” went to be with her beloved husband, Phil, and friend, Claire “Kitty” Chasse, on Saturday, June 7. After a brief illness, Nanie died peacefully in her bed. She was surrounded by her loved ones and all her favorite things at her new home with her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Tim Gulliver.

She was born in Millinocket on Nov. 22, 1931, to Willis and Harriet “Edna” (Knight) Gates. Nanie graduated from Stearns High School in 1950 and married Philip George Michaud in 1959.

After the death of her husband, Nanie moved to be with her daughter and grandchildren, whom she adored and was so proud of. Nanie spent time with the family enjoying her grandchildren, Nichole and Nicholas Gulliver, in their various school and sports events. She loved to watch TV, especially ice skating and high school basketball.

Nanie loved to do her morning crossword puzzle with her dear friend, Janet Kinney, of Jay. Nanie was an avid reader and she loved to call her daughter, Beth, day and night to tell her what “good things” she had just read.

Nanie was a very special person. She was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary in Millinocket. She was loving and caring, and in Nanie’s eyes, you were always a “darlin’” or “dear.” She helped take care of so many people over the years and touched so many lives. One of the special families whose lives Nanie touched is the Chasse family. Along with the Chasse family are three very special people, Kip McCarthy, Anthony York and Cody York.
