NORWAY — Garrett Pendexter is the Stone-Smart Unit 82, American Legion, Auxiliary winner for the Americanism essay contest with the theme, “How Can I Show Pride in Being an American?”
Garrett is a fifth-grader at Guy E. Rowe Elementary School.
Garrett and his family visited the Stone-Smart Legion supper on May 14. After reading his essay, he was presented a $50 check and certificate.
An honorarium check for $50 was sent to the National President’s Scholarship Fund in Garrett’s name.
His essay included the story of the survival of his grandfather, Arnie Pendexter, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Stone-Smart Post 82, American Legion.
