MADISON — No. 1 Madison scored on an error in the third inning and held on for a 1-0 Class C West softball semifinal win over No. 4 Telstar Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs avenged their only regular-season loss in the MVC and advanced to Tuesday’s regional title game at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.

Madison (17-1) will face the winner of Hall-Dale and Mountain Valley, which was postponed to 2 p.m. Monday due to wet grounds.

Telstar finished 11-5 and had its chances.

The Rebels left runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings and got Tehya Johnson and Hayley Peterson aboard on errors to start the seventh before pitcher Emily McKenney escaped.

Both pitchers were superb. McKenney and Telstar’s Jessica Dirago allowed only two hits apiece. McKenney struck out 12. Dirago fanned 10.

McKenney held the Rebels hitless until Johnson’s single in the fifth.
