1921 – 2014

SOUTH PARIS — Mary Jane Poole, 93, of Otisfield passed away Tuesday, June 10, at the Maine Veteran’s Home in South Paris.

She was born in Farmington, Mich., on Feb. 9, 1921, the daughter of Joseph F. and Ethel Elliott Sullivan. She attended schools in Battle Creek, Mich., and Albion College where she studied Journalism.

Mrs. Poole faithfully served her country in the U.S. Navy as Yeoman during World War II. She married William L. Poole on Nov. 25, 1944. He died on Dec. 3, 2004. She lived in Otisfield for more than 50 years coming from New York. She was a member of American Legion Post No. 112 of Oxford and a member of the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, where she served as a deacon.

She will especially be remembered for the loving care she gave to the church’s rose bushes for over 25 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Christine Kelley and her life partner, Robert Harris, of Otisfield, Deborah and her husband, Dr. August Valenti, of Poland Spring, and Kathryn and her husband, Theodore Majewski Jr., of Stuart, Fla.; a brother, Elliott Sullivan of Battle Creek, Mich.; a sister, Ruth Walz of New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Mary Susan Kelley, Peter H. Kelley Jr., Jonathan D. Valenti, Carolyn A. Valenti, Timothy W. Valenti, Michael W. Majewski and Danial T. Majewski; two great-grandchildren, Jackolyn K. Shremshock and Codi C. Reinhard; and one great-great-grandchild, Calli F. Moore.

Besides her husband, she is predeceased by a brother, Joseph Sullivan.
