1938 – 2014

SOUTH PARIS — Dwight Bert Perry, 76, of Norway, died Friday, June 13, at Market Square Health Care Center.

He was born in Lewiston on Jan. 21, 1938, a son of Ralph and Edith Littlefield Perry. He attended schools in Waterford and graduated from Norway High School in 1957, where he met his wife, Patricia, in 1956.

Dwight lived in North Waterford his entire life, until moving to Norway four years ago and then to Market Square Health Care Center in December 2012. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

He married Patricia Boyce Estes on Dec. 15, 1973, and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past December. Except for the time he served in the Army, he worked at the same job in the concrete business as a truck driver. The company was sold several times and had different names, but it was the same job and he received a gold watch from the Cianbro Co. when he retired, because of illness.

He was a director and former president of the Waterford World’s Fair and during his tenure, he was the chief negotiator for the purchase of the land which had been leased for many years. He considered this his greatest accomplishment as a director. Dwight also served as a Maine State Fair Association director until illness hindered his traveling.

He was an avid poker player and enjoyed weekly games with the same group of men for years. A true Yankee trader, Dwight spent many hours “dickering” with others for everything and anything from guns, boats, vehicles and even an airplane. If someone had something they needed to sell to raise some cash, they called Dwight.

He was a licensed firearms dealer and had his own gun shop, following in his father’s footsteps. He was an excellent marksman and an avid hunter and fisherman. Many vacations were spent with close friends on these sporting trips. While he was mostly confined to his home for years, he enjoyed visits from his trading buddies and especially the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Listening to audio books was his daily pastime for many years, along with his cat, Theodore, who was his constant companion.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Norway; two daughters, Debra Perry and her significant other, Curtis McAllister, of Buckfield and Diana Lufkin and her husband, Merle, of Peru; a son, Scott Perry and his companion, Linda Richards, of Paris; stepchildren, Stephen Estes and his wife, Debbie, of Waterford and Deborah Gary and her companion, John Grace, of Poland; eight grandchildren, William Noble, Donald Noble, Maxx Noble, Dwight “Bub” Millett, Katie Libby, Kristina Wilson, Kayla Nowell and Justin Estes; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Janice Enman and her husband, Fred, and Katherine Berard and her husband, Donald.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Kenneth; granddaughter, Jill Millett; and a special aunt, Merline Littlefield.
