RANGELEY — The first “Black Fly Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships” will be held Saturday, June 21, at Rangeley Lakes Regional School. The event is open to kids ages 5-16 who will each compete in two grappling divisions and a takedown tournament.

The event will conclude in two open-weight divisions for beautiful Boys’ and Girls’ Championship Belts.

This tournament will be the first of its kind in the state of Maine just for kids and using the official rules of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. There are approximately 20 schools throughout the state teaching the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and at least seven will be represented including The Academy of Mixed Martial Arts, Gracie Barra Bangor, MMA Athletix, American Kicks and various branches of “The Foundry,” the academy hosting the event.

The action begins at 11 a.m. Admission is $3 for spectators; $35 for competitors.
