CONCORD, N.H. — Federal and state officials say a Marine from New Hampshire has been killed in Afghanistan.
Gov. Maggie Hassan says Lance Cpl. Brandon Garabrant was dedicated to service to his country and his death was a tragedy. She offered her condolences to his family, as did U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte.
The governor told the New Hampshire Union Leader that Garabrant was a volunteer firefighter in Temple and graduated from ConVal High School. Media reports say Garabrant was killed Friday.
Last year, Garabrant wanted to wear his Marine uniform to his high school graduation but school officials said policy bans uniforms and requires graduates to wear blue caps and gowns. Garabrant said that out of respect to the Marines and his high school, he wouldn’t wear the military uniform.
