1930 – 2014

FARMINGTON — John Henry Allen Jr., 83, of Farmington passed away at his home on Saturday, June 28, surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Farmington, the son of John H. Allen Sr. and Eleanor (Odell) Allen. He was educated in the schools of Farmington. John served his country in Virginia and Germany from 1952-1954. On July 18, 1954, John married Ruby Ranger at the Dryden Baptist Church. He was a lumberman until he retired in 1999. John enjoyed fly fishing and hunting with his brothers and brothers-in-law.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby; son, Earl and wife, Lorna, of Jay; brothers, Clyde and wife, Anita, of New Sharon, Philip and wife, Melissa, of Farmington, David and wife Carolyn, of West Farmington; sisters, Barbara and husband, Arlo White, of Farmington, Katheryn Ames of Farmington, Pat and husband, Barton Soule, of Dayton, Dianne and husband, Donald Priest, of North Anson; sisters-in-law Marion Durrell and husband, Kenneth (Spider), of Farmington, Madeline Ranger of Farmington; grandchildren, Matt Allen and Erika Hooper and husband, Michael; step-grandchildren Erick and Justin Daggett; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kalab Allen, Michael and Sara Hooper; step-great-grandchildren, Zac and Starr Daggett; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Lori, and grandson, Troy, who were killed in a car accident in 1993; his parents; and brothers Herbert and Richard.
