1933 – 2014
LEWISTON—Ovila “Bert” Bisson, 80, of Lewiston died Friday, June 27, at Russell Park Manor, where he had been a resident for two years.
He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 10, 1933, son of the late Mathias and Odelie Parent Bisson. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Armande Blais on July 22, 1955.
Bert was a very devoted husband and father. He will be remembered as a quiet, kind, generous and hard working man who deeply loved his wife and three children. He retired from Bath Iron Works in 1984.
On April 6, 1990, he was awarded a second chance at life. He was the recipient of a generous gift. He received a heart transplant at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. His second chance at life was never taken for granted nor did he and his family fail to appreciate the magnitude of this generous gift.
Following his transplant, he discovered a new passion. He built and restored beautiful pieces of furniture that will forever be cherished by his children and future generations.
He is loved, missed, remembered and honored by his wife, Armande of Lewiston; his three children, Karen Eldridge and husband, David, of Gray, Donna LePage and husband, David of Winthrop, and Michael Bisson of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Eldridge, Joshua LePage and wife, Kasey, and Amanda Hinkley and husband, Brandon; three great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jaydon LePage and Savannah Hinkley; a sister, Laurette Moore of Lisbon; and many nieces and nephews.
Bert’s family would like to thank the staff at Russell Park Manor and a special thanks to Michelle, Kathy and Cindy of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.
