LEWISTON — The Police Department charged 29 people during Operation Hot Spots in June.
According to a news release from Lt. Michael McGonagle, people have been arrested or summonsed on charges ranging from operating after suspension to aggravated drug trafficking.
McGonagle said heroin, crack, cocaine, prescription medications, hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia were seized along with $26,932 in cash and a vehicle.
Agencies participating in Operation Hot Spots include Lewiston, Auburn and Lisbon police departments, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Central Maine Violent Crime Task Force, Maine Probation and Parole, Maine State Police, Department of Corrections and the U.S. Probation Office.
McGonagle described Operation Hot Spots as an effort that’s been going on since May 2012 and will continue.
Felony arrests made during Operation Hot Spots include:
* Darnell Robinson, 27, and Jermaine Motley, 25, both of Lewiston, and Garret Griffin, 24, of Windham, all charged with aggravating trafficking in scheduled drugs.
* Mandy Chouniard, 26, of Lewiston and Dwayne Brough, 44, of Lewiston, both charged with unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.
* Richard McKenzie, 31, of Lewiston, a federal drug warrant.
