1931 – 2014
RUMFORD — Robert M. “Bob” Hodgkins Sr., 83, of Roxbury, died Sunday, June 29, at the Rumford Hospital in Rumford.
He was born in Roxbury on Jan. 13, 1931, a son of Alphonso and Valedia (Thibodeau) Hodgkins, and had attended schools in Frye and Roxbury.
Bob was employed at Gilford Industries (formerly Maine Central Railroad) as a mechanic, machinist and car inspector for over 19 years, until his retirement in 1985.
Bob was a member of the Acadian Historical Society and Mexico Historical Society.
He was married in Rumford on Feb. 11, 1950, to Hazel L. LeBlanc of Roxbury, who survives him.
Other survivors include daughters, Christine Howard and husband, Richard, of Roxbury, and Valerie Allen and husband, Richard, of Byron; sons, Robert Hodgkins Jr. of Windham, Wayne Hodgkins and wife, Sue, of Roxbury, and Alan Hodgkins of Roxbury; brothers, Gilbert Hodgkins and companion, Donna, of Roxbury, and Gary Hodgkins and wife, Gay, of Jackman; sisters, Irene Leighton of Rumford, Rosemary Marston of Roxbury, Phyllis Harlow and husband, Thomas, of Roxbury, and Leona White of Rumford; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Hodgkins and special niece, Karen Hodgkins of Roxbury; many nieces and nephews; and his dog and best friend, “Rusty.”
He was predeceased by his brothers, Alphonso, Ronald, Albert and Roger; his sisters, Arlene, Lorraine and Annette; and a daughter-in-law, Sonja.
