A Sun Journal story, “Pandora’s box” (June 29) mentioned that dandelions are “native.”

That statement should be qualified.

An alpine species, Taraxacum ceratophorum is found in Alberta. Taraxacum californicum is an endangered California native. But the variety found in lawns, cracks in pavements, and along roadsides in Maine is Taraxacum officinale, a Eurasian transplant.
