FARMINGTON — Funeral services for Albert L. Smith Sr., of East Wilton, were held Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m. at Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Routes 2 and 27, Farmington, beginning with a memorial service by the Farmington Elks Lodge BPOE No. 2430. Rhonda Wiles-Rosell was the celebrant.

Current and retired members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department served as bearers, Niles Yeaton, Raymond Meldrum, David Simpson, Steve Lowell, David Radcliff, Sandy Burke, David St. Laurent and Nate Bean. Sammie Angel, longtime family friend, was the soloist and sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.” Nephew, Mike Cushing, and brother, Ron Cushing, wrote and delivered a personal family eulegy, respectively.

The funeral cortege, with the immediate family, was escorted to the race track at Farmington Fairgrounds for one last ride around the track. The cortege returned to the Remembrance Center to include others traveling to Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton for committal prayers. Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. played “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes and helium balloons in the Smith family racing colors, filled with lupine seeds, were released by the grandchildren. Following services, a reception was held at the Elks Lodge in West Farmington.
