1930 – 2014

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Marie P. “Mary” Chasse, 83, of Cramer Path in Gansevoort, N.Y., and formerly of Webster Street in Lewiston, died with her children by her side on Tuesday, June 17, at Wesley Community Health Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., after fighting a courageous battle with dementia.

Marie was born on Oct. 2, 1930, in Compton, Quebec, to the late Napolian and Emilia (Bisson) Doyon. She was raised in Canada, until her family moved to Biddeford when she was a young girl. On Jan. 7, 1950, she married the love of her life, Ralph A. “Red” Chasse, at St. Andrews Church in Biddeford.

Throughout her career, she worked in various textile mills in both Biddeford and Lewiston. She also worked at the 88 Cent Store and enjoyed helping her husband at S.K. Ames (The Butter Store). She later worked at Marden’s, where she was employed in the warehouse, until her retirement in 2006.

She leaves behind her daughter, Janice Simon and her husband, Glenn, of Gansevoort, N.Y.; her son, Michael Chasse and his girlfriend, Rita Goggin, of Turner; three grandchildren, Brad Simon and his wife, Jessica, of South Glens Falls, N.Y., Melinda Walker and her husband, Thomas, of Smyrna, Tenn., and Michalee Chasse of Turner; great-grandson, Parker Simon of South Glens Falls, N.Y., and unborn great-grandson, “Baby” Walker of Smyrna, Tenn.; her sister, Doris Brady of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 60 years; her sister, Rita Guibord and her husband, George; her sister, Laurette Brady and her husband, Raymond “Speed;” her brother-in-law, Gerry Brady; and her daughter-in-law, Beverlee Chasse.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Wesley Community Health Care Center, as well as Anne Laplante for all the help and support.
