1918 – 2014

SOUTH PARIS — William H. Meserve, 96, of Norway, passed away on Friday, July 4, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

He was born in Pownal on May 11, 1918, a son of James K. and Elsie Thurling Meserve. He graduated from Oxford High School and married Ethel M. Allen on Oct. 14, 1939. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.

William had been a pattern maker at Wilner Wood Products, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the VFW in South Paris and the Second Congregational Church in Norway.

He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Cronin, of Minot; four grandchildren, Darel and Andrea Richardson and Duane and Lisa Richardson, all of Norway, Tina and Chris Carter of Florida, and Ben and Beth Stanewick of New Jersey; a sister, Eleanor Simmons, of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife on Oct. 1, 1998; a daughter, Kristie Stanewick; two sisters, Mary Burton and Edna Monk; and two brothers, Earl and Horace.
