1936 – 2014

BURNHAM — Raymond Hanson Sr., 77, of Burnham and formerly of Stratton, passed away on Thursday, July 3, at his home on Unity Pond, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born in Stratton on Dec. 7, 1936, the son of Hubert and Abbie (Hewett) Hanson. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1956. On July 27, 1963, he married Shirley (Brown) Hanson.

He was an assistant chief of the Stratton Fire Department and received a distinguished award for bravery from Gov. Brennan for saving snowmobilers from drowning in Flagstaff Lake. He was employed by Forster Manufacturing in Stratton, and in later years, by Stratton Lumber.

He had many hobbies and interests, including woodworking and wood crafts, which were his favorites. He also loved his Red Sox and NASCAR.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley (Brown) Hanson, of Burnham; two children, Raymond Hanson Jr. and partner, Debbie Tanner, of Windsor and Rodney Hanson and wife, Nicole, of Brewer; grandchildren, Nick Hanson, Nichole Borrelli and husband, Chris, Elizabeth Hanson, Eric Hanson, Nicholas Turner, Simon Hanson and Mackenzie Hanson; great-grandchild, Elijah Hanson; and two sisters, Ruth Lloyd of Lincoln and Minnie Field of Stratton.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Iva Hathaway and Linda Logas.
