AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library and the Maine Department of Labor’s Lewiston CareerCenter will host Thomas Dowd, an award-winning Maine author, to celebrate the release of his latest book

from 9:30 a.m.- noon Thursday, July 17, in the Library’s Androscoggin Community Room, 49 Spring Street.

Dowd, after 23 years with the same financial industry firm, received the dreaded “we’re downsizing” call. He used his own leadership skills to find the inspiration to start the learning process to land in a better place in just 59 days. He found networking groups, career centers, and large groups of unemployed individuals to seek empathetic information about the process of looking for work.

The answers to success always came back to taking action and building a strong support system with the mantra of “transform into who you really want to be professionally.”

Based on real-life examples and learning, “Displacement Day” gives readers an insider’s perspective on the toll career displacement takes on the unemployed and those closest to them, and why attitude and consistent positive steps can make all the difference.

There will be a short presentation, book reading, and open discussion on the job-search process, followed by a book signing. The event is free and open to the public.
