CANTON — The Board of Selectmen held its organizational meeting Thursday, electing Donald Hutchins as chairman and choosing the committees and departments members will oversee.

Hutchins chose to oversee the Planning Board and the Budget Committee. Mac Ray took the Recreation Department, Parks and Trails, and Sewer. Russell Adams chose the Fire Department and Brian Keene took oversight of Animal Control.

Hutchins announced the board would revise its policies.

The town has no constable.

The board went into executive session to review two applications for road workers.

In other business, selectmen discussed parcels of town they will put out to bid. Interested parties may call the Town Office for more information.

The Village Ridge property is 40 acres with subdivision permits.

The town will also be selling granite blocks and bricks from the old fire station.

Two write-ins for the Planning Board, Jason Taylor and Mary Wainwright, were approved, pending their acceptance.

Hutchins suggested that employee meetings follow town meetings to make employees aware of such things as budgets and policies.

The board signed a contract with an Androscoggin County animal shelter.

Some residents requested beach rules and the board suggested they should contact the Planning Board to see what could be done.
