BRUNSWICK — A man told police he was shot at Thursday as he was peering in a window on Brackett Road.

Police who investigated the incident said the man was, in fact, shot at — with a gun that fires blanks.

The drama began at about 1:30 p.m. Police said the man who was shot at told them he had been going from house to house, asking strangers if he could use their phone. At one home, he peered through a window and evidently startled the homeowner inside.

“At one of the homes, he peered in a window, scaring the homeowner and, when he did not immediately leave upon request, the homeowner fired a round from a gun only designed to shoot blanks at the stranger,” according to a Brunswick Police Department news release.

After the shooting was reported, several officers responded to the area. Upon investigation, police found that no crime had been committed, although the people involved were advised of the potential consequences of their actions.
