Don Beaulieu of the William J. Rogers American Legion Post places an American flag at the graves of Civil War soldiers Henry L. Farrington and Stillman Gurney at Pleasant Plains Cemetery in Auburn. Other veterans buried there include Revolutionary War soldier Noah Waterman and U.S. Army veteran Stephanie A. Leonard of Lewiston who died of injuries after her car crashed into the guardrail next to the cemetery on Route 4 in 2002. Maine law requires municipalities to place flags at veterans graves each Memorial Day.
