1925 – 2014
AUBURN — Marie D. Gerry, 89, of Auburn Road in West Peru, died Thursday, July 10, at the Hospice House.
She was born in Old Town on March 22, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Christie Heald. Marie graduated from Old Town High School and attended the University of Maine in Orono for three years.
Marie was the first secretary West Peru Grammar School ever had and worked there for many years, until retirement. She was a former member of the Peru Mother’s Club and the Extension Club.
She loved spending time with her family and her cat, Samantha. Marie was an avid reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and visiting camp on Sand Pond. She was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed relaxing on her back porch.
She was married on Sept. 10, 1949, to Edwin S. Gerry, who survives of West Peru. Other survivors include two daughters, Dianne McCahill and husband, Sean, of Cataumet, Mass., and Rebecca Poat and husband, John, of Livermore Falls; four grandchildren, Sandra McCahill of Allston, Mass., Tomas McCahill and companion, Brian Buczkowski, of East Falmouth, Mass., Libby Arrico and husband, Mike, of Glenburn and Lexie Moras and husband, Mike, of Windham; and three great-grandchildren, Madison and Austin Arrico of Glenburn and Zoey Moras of Windham.
