PARIS — The magic of a garden twinkling with lights on a summer evening is yours to experience at the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead’s annual Garden Illuminated. It is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, July 19, with a rain date of July 26.
The garden will be lit at dusk to create a magical effect. A stroll through the garden decorated with hundreds of luminaria and tea-candle lights creates an unforgettable experience.
Wish lanterns will be launched at 9:30. Attendees will have an opportunity to write their wishes or cares on one of the lanterns. Wish lanterns, or kongming, are traditionally used in various Asian cultures’ celebrations and festivals. Their launch symbolizes the release of worries and problems.
This year’s event will be catered by Bethel’s Good Food Store. Music will be provided by Davy Sturtevant. The sponsor is Edward Jones. Proceeds will be used to maintain the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead.
Tickets are $20 and include a drink, finger food and live music. A cash bar will be available. Call the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead at 743-8820 for tickets or for more information. Tickets may also be purchased in advance at the gift shop at 97 Main St. Tickets will be available at the event, but advance registration is encouraged.
