Vendor fair to benefit Canton native

AUBURN — A benefit Sweet Summertime Vendor/Craft Fair and Raffle will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Norway Savings Bank Arena, behind Shaw’s Supermarket.

The event will benefit Alan Spear, formerly of Canton, who was in a serious accident on July 27, 2013. He is still in what is called a minimally conscious state and requires round-the-clock care. This event will help raise money to get a wheelchair lift for the family’s vehicle, and some other much needed items to help in his care.

Cary Library used book sale

WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library’s used book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.

Last chance, last day, great bargains: All books will be sold for $1 per bag.

All proceeds benefit the Cary Memorial Library.

Annual performance competition

MECHANIC FALLS — The Down East Country Music Association will hold their annual performance competitions on Sunday, July 20, at the Silver Spur, Route 121.

Competitions will start at 11 a.m.

Admission is $6 for nonmembers; $5 for DECMA members; $2 for children under 12 years.

Monmouth Garden Club to meet

MONMOUTH — The Garden Club will host speaker Clay Kirby of University of Maine Extension at 7 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Cumston Hall, Lower Level.

Kirby will speak on “Landscapes and Gardens” and “Insect Friends and Foes.”

Lewiston Library theme is Batman

AUBURN — The Lewiston Public Library will celebrate 75 years of the caped crusader striking fear into the hearts of criminals everywhere.

A family-friendly Batman film will be shown as well as several bat-inspired crafts in Callahan Hall on Wednesday, July 23, beginning at 4 p.m.

The first 35 kids present will receive a Batman goodie bag.

Substitute teacher training class

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education will hold a substitute teacher training class Thursday, July 24.

Topics covered will include district expectations, teacher session plans and classroom management. This course is step one in the substitute teacher application process for the district.

Monmouth Academy Alumni Reunion

MONMOUTH — Monmouth Academy will hold the 115th annual Alumni Reunion on Saturday, Aug. 2, honoring the class of 1964.

The event will take place at the Monmouth Academy gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting at 10 with a social.

A box lunch from Subway will be served at noon; choices are turkey, chicken salad, ham, tuna salad and veggie sandwiches. The cost for alumni is $15, guests are $10 if not alumni.

Danville Grange raffle winners

AUBURN — The 15th annual indoor yard sale held at Danville Junction Grange was very successful and well attended. Raffle winners were Doreen Holt, David Meserve, Joyce MacDonald, Sharon Albiston and Holly Meserve.

Proceeds of the sale will go towards general repair of the grange hall.
