Sandra Blanchette, Chairman of the Hancock County Republican Committee, and Hon. Debra Plowman, Chairman of the Penobscot County Republican Committee announced today that the Hancock and Penobscot County Republicans will hold a special caucus to select a replacement for the Senate District 8 Republican nominee. In a recent letter to Maine’s Secretary of State, Sen. Edward Youngblood withdrew as the Republican nominee for Senate District 8. Youngblood had won the nomination in an uncontested primary onJune 10th.

The newly-apportioned Senate District 8 consists of Bucksport, Castine, Dedham, East Hancock UT, Great Pond, Northwest Hancock UT, Orland, Penobscot, and Verona Island in Hancock County; along with Bradley, Brewer, Burlington, Clifton, East Central Penobscot UT, Eddington, Holden, Lincoln, Lowell,  and Orrington in Penobscot County. The nominating caucus will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 20th at the Arey Community Center in Bucksport.

“According to Maine Republican State Party rules, all enrolled Republicans in District 8 towns that caucused and organized earlier this year are eligible to participate and vote in the special caucus,” said Chairman Blanchette. All the towns in the district are eligible with the exception of Great Pond, Verona Island, Bradley, and Lowell as their Republican Committees have not held an organizational meeting this year. If an organizational meeting occurs before July 20th then Republicans from these towns will be eligible.

This is one of the most important obligations of our municipal and county committees as defined by state law.  I urge all Republicans in District 8 to participate in the special caucus,” Chairman Plowman concluded.

Former Representative Kimberley Rosen is currently the only declared candidate interested in seeking the nomination. The nominee will be selected by a vote of the special caucus.

Arey Community Center is located on Route 15 in North Bucksport, directly across from the North Bucksport United Methodist Church.
