AUBURN — City officials are looking for a large group of volunteers to set spending priorities for Auburn’s share of federal Community Development Block Grant money.

Members of the Citizens Advisory Committee will work with Community Development staff and the city’s consultant to write a a five-year strategic plan for spending Community Development funds. Selections to the committee will be made by Mayor Jonathan LaBonte.

Committee members must be Auburn residents. In addition, at least one member must be of minority race or ethnic background; three must be representatives of community or faith-based organizations, one of which represents the interests of homeless persons; between 12 and 15 persons must be from target areas, including residents, landlords and small business owners, with a minimum of four each from the Downtown, Union Street and New Auburn target areas.

The city must have citizen participation under the Community Development Block Grant program and HOME Investment Partnerships program. The citizen participation process will include feedback sessions from the neighborhood in three target areas.

Meetings are scheduled to begin this fall.

The CAC Volunteer Application is available from the Boards and Committees section of the Auburn website at www.auburnmaine.gov. The deadline for submitting the application is August 15.
