CARTHAGE — Carthage Heritage Day, an annual event celebrating the residents of Carthage, will take place Saturday, July 26, at the Rocky Mountain Terrain Park at 420 Winter Hill Road, said John Steele, the owner of the terrain park.

Steele said that normally, the town of Carthage hosts the event but was unable to do so this year.

“I’m not sure if they didn’t have the money or didn’t have the time, but the town wasn’t able to organize the event,” Steele said Wednesday afternoon.

It wasn’t until Steele hosted a meeting in July between Patriot Renewables, a wind energy company from Quincy, Mass., and Carthage residents that the idea of holding the Heritage Day event at the Rocky Mountain Terrain Park took hold.

“I hosted that meeting, and at some point, Patriot Renewables said they would donate money to the park that would allow us to host the Carthage Heritage Day,” Steele said. “Ever since, I’ve been working to get everything set up.”

The park will open at 8 a.m. on the day of the event, Steele said, and will feature a litany of activities until the park closes at 9 p.m.

Among the activities that residents can participate in during Carthage Heritage Day are a pig roast from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., a concert from Weld resident Linda Lee and Farmington resident Dona Whittemore performing from 10 a.m. to noon under the name “L&D Country,” a concert from noon to 3 p.m. by Denny Breau, a horseshoe tournament and face painting.

Fireworks are to begin at 9 p.m., and free child care will be available throughout the day.

“Usually, the town would have bake sale vendors and yard sale tables set up, but since this has been so last-minute, I haven’t been able to do that,” Steele said. “Hopefully, the people of Carthage have a good time with what we have.”
