CORNISH (AP) — The president of the Cornish Elementary School Parent Teacher Club has been charged with stealing about $3,000 from the group.

Authorities said 40-year-old Deanna Lovell of Parsonsfield was indicted by a grand jury on the Class C felony theft charge earlier this month.

Chief Deputy Bill King told the Journal Tribune (http://bit.ly/1zbFaOI ) the York County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation in December after receiving reports that money was missing from the club’s account. King said a review of the club’s bank records and other materials led to the charges.

Lovell, reached by phone, said she had been advised not to comment.

Lovell has also resigned her spot on the Maine School Administrative District 55 School Board. The district includes Baldwin, Cornish, Hiram, Parsonsfield and Porter.
