Pinochle, pitch played each week

LEWISTON — Pinochle and pitch card games for seniors are played weekly during the summer at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.

New players are always welcome. Pitch is played at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. Pinochle is at 1 p.m. on Thursdays. Refresher courses are available in both categories.

League play starts the first week in September.

The armory is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. You must become a member to play.

Arts Commission conversation

LEWISTON — Join Arts & Culture Lewison Auburn on Tuesday, July 29, for a Maine Arts Commission community conversation and focus group gathering in LPL’s Callahan Hall. Two sessions will be held, the first from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. and the second from 11 a.m. to noon.

MAC is in the early stages of creating a cultural strategic plan and the Lewiston conversations are two of several that are being held across the state this summer to gather input for the planning.

The goal of these gatherings is to achieve a clearer understanding of what Mainers think about arts and cultural development and what they most value in terms of future opportunities, activities and offerings.

The content of both of these sessions is identical.

The Lewiston conversations are being co-sponsored by Arts & Culture Lewiston Auburn, a collaboration of central Maine organizations that present and promote arts and cultural offerings in L/A and maintain a cultural events calendar on their website.

Masonic bean supper Aug. 9

DURHAM — A Masonic bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Lodge on Route 136, across from the River Park.

The prices are $7.50 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12, and free for children under 5.

On the menu are baked beans, chop suey, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, bread, pickles and homemade pies.

Medicare class at SeniorsPlus

LEWISTON — A class on Medicare 101 will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road.

Instructor Roland Bussiere will teach the basics and timelines of this complex system. Learn when you need to sign up for what, and ways to save money.
