FARMINGTON — A Red Schoolhouse Road resident reported to police that two dirt bikes were missing from his garage Sunday morning.

Whoever took them didn’t take them far. They apparently wouldn’t start, Farmington police secretary Rachel Heseltine said.

Police received a call at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday, shortly after the resident found someone had stolen a 1972 Suzuki dirt bike and a 1974 Yamaha dirt bike. These are considered antiques and do not require a key, she said.

The dirt bikes, along with a motorcycle, were housed in a small, unlocked garage near the road. The owner told Farmington officer Bridgette Gilbert that he had last seen the dirt bikes at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, she said.

An hour later, the owner called to say he had found one bike approximately 200 yards from his home.

While Gilbert continued to search, the owner called again after 11 a.m. and said he found the second dirt bike, approximately 100 yards from his home, she said.

Neither dirt bike was damaged.

It appears the person could not get them started and ditched them, according to Gilbert’s report.
