BETHEL — To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Mahoosuc Land Trust is soliciting entries from the public for a photography, art and writing show set for Saturday, Sept. 27.
As part of the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, the show will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the trust’s office at 18 Mayville Road, which is Route 2, in Bethel.
Jolan Ippolito, the trust’s spokeswoman, described Tuesday in an email that they are seeking, “those special photographs, original art works or written works that express the natural beauty of the Mahoosuc Region.
“Please share your work with the Mahoosuc Land Trust Community to celebrate our 25th Anniversary,” she said.
She defined the Mahoosuc Region as the Mahoosuc Mountain Range area, which runs from Gorham, N.H., into Western Maine.
“Basically, north of Route 2 up into Andover, including Rumford Whitecap at the edge,” Ippolito said. The region includes towns around those mountains.
Northeast Bank stepped up to be the lead sponsor of the celebration, she said.
“This is open to all,” Ippolito said. “We are looking for maximum participation to exhibit our surroundings.”
There will be prizes for photographs, original art and written works in three age categories: 12 and younger, 13 through 18, and 19 and older. There is a $10 donation entry fee for the oldest age group.
Photos should be matted at a minimum and may be framed. Original art should be exhibit-ready. Stories should be one typed page, maximum, and attached to a stiff backing.
Submitters of entries retain the rights to their work.
Any or all submissions may be eligible for inclusion in the 25th Mahoosuc Land Trust Anniversary Book. Information and pre-orders for the book will follow. Entrants can sell their submissions at the show.
“We are tentatively planning to make a book of some of the entries and would ask entrants to give us permission to print their submission,” Ippolito said. “Also, we are asking that if someone sells their entry, they would give the land trust a 10 percent donation.”
Entries should be left at the Mahoosuc Land Trust Office by Wednesday, Sept. 17. Mail entries are also accepted. Send them to Mahoosuc Land Trust, P.O. Box 981, Bethel, ME 04217.
