WINTHROP — Kelsey Stoneton, a junior at Winthrop High School, died early Saturday at Maine Medical Center in Portland, as reported by the Kennebec Journal.
Stoneton, the daughter of Winthrop High School athletic director Joel Stoneton, collapsed early Friday morning due to a pulmonary embolism, according to the Facebook page of her mother, Kimberly. The post from Kimberly Stoneton indicates that Kelsey never awoke after surgery to clear clots in her lungs, and she died around 4:10 Saturday morning.
Per the Kennebec Journal, the family was not taking visitors, and asked that messages of condolences be left outside their home. Coaches from the Winthrop High School football team opened the locker room at the high school on Saturday for friends and relatives to meet and grieve.
