LAGRANGE — A state trooper shot and killed a man at the end of a nearly 3-hour standoff Sunday, authorities said.
Lewis Conlogue, 49, of LaGrange died at the scene,  the site of the former Island Farm restaurant on Route 16.
The trooper, Sgt Scott Hamilton, has been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard state police procedure, while the incident is being investigated, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.
He said Conlogue was armed.
Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies and Maine State Police responded to a reported domestic incident around 4 p.m. involving a man with a weapon.
The man refused to cooperate and threatened violence if anyone approached, Sheriff Glenn Ross said during the standoff. McCausland said state police negotiators were called to the scene.
A four-mile stretch of Route 16, also known as Bennoch Road, was closed while police dealt with the standoff.
