1935 – 2014
AUBURN — Glenn R. Andrews, 79, of Harrison, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.
He was born in Bolsters Mills on Aug. 2, 1935, a son of Clyde and Margaret (Alward) Andrews Sr. He attended schools in Bolsters Mills, Norway and St. Petersburg, Fla., during the winter months.
On Aug. 21, 1954, he married Helen Wright in Bridgton. Later this month, they were looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.
Glenn owned and operated an auto body repair shop for many years out of his home in Harrison, repairing anything from antiques to new cars.
He was very involved in the Oxford Masonic Lodge No. 18 AF & AM and in 2013, earned his 50-year pin. Glenn started the Square & Compass Club within the lodge and was instrumental in a lot of the fundraising efforts, especially the suppers it hosted.
He was also a member of the Kora Temple Shrine and for many years, served as the ambassador to the Oxford Hills area for the Shriners, determining the eligibility for children to receive care at the Shriners Hospital.
Recently, Glenn was inducted into the Maine Racing Hall of Fame for his many successful years racing throughout Maine during the 1950s to 1970s. He was also being considered for the Vermont Racing Hall of Fame, as well, for the same success in that state.
He enjoyed golfing, family holidays, cooking various family favorites and camping, but especially the company of his family, including the introduction of his new great-granddaughter.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Helen of Harrison; two sons, Ricky Andrews of South Paris and Rusty Andrews and his wife, Kelly, of Oxford; two granddaughters, Stephanie Andrews and her companion, Eric, and Andrea Andrews, both of South Paris; a great-granddaughter, Baylee; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Clyde Andrews Jr. and Rodney Andrews.
