1915 – 2014

LISBON FALLS — Dorothy Esther Richmond, 99, of Lisbon Falls, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, Aug. 6 at her home.

She was born in Weymouth, Mass., on June 14, 1915, a daughter of Ernest and Louise (Hersey) Trussell. She grew up in the Weymouth area and attended local schools there. She was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1935. After high school, Dorothy received her teaching degree in 1938 at the now-known Maine Maritime Academy in Castine. Dorothy taught kindergarten for two years and worked for over 30 years as the librarian at Tufts Weymouth Library until her retirement in 1972.

After her retirement, Dorothy married Everett Richmond on Feb. 25, 1972, in Weymouth, Mass. She moved to Maine in July 2007. She enjoyed knitting for the family, reading, traveling, watching the dog sledding in Rangeley, boating and eating out at restaurants. She was very active in both the AARP and NARFE with helping people, especially senior citizens. Dorothy was also very fond of chocolate chip cookies and there wasn’t much she wouldn’t do to get one, either. She loved animals, especially her dogs.

Dorothy is survived by two nieces, Marcia Daniels of Joppa, Md., and Gladys Thompson of Lisbon; three great-nieces, Cassandra Coburn of Lisbon, Deana Coburn of Sabattus and Asiah McClain of Lisbon; three great-nephews, Mark Daniels of Joppa, Md., Kristopher Farris of Groton, Conn., and Zachary Farris of Lisbon; as well as eight great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2007; a sister, Frieda L. Thompson; and a nephew, Frank Thompson.
