AUBURN — The Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court Street, will be the venue for the Annual Summer Keyboard Concert, at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. Featured will be Mark Thallander, Glenda Winkle-Morrow, Kathy Haley, and Daniel Burgess, who, as a group, will conclude the musical portion of the evening by playing the national anthem to commemorate the 200th anniversary of its lyrics being written by Francis Scott Key.

Thallander lost an arm in an automobile accident on the Maine Turnpike in 2003, but has masterfully rewritten organ music so it sounds as if he is playing with two hands and feet during concerts he performs throughout North America.

Pianist, composer, and arranger Winkle-Morrow is a resident of Missouri, and earned her Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Northwestern University. She is professor emeritus at Central Bible College, and has presented workshops and performed concerts throughout the United States and Canada.

Haley attended the University of Southern Maine and is a well known Maine musician and singer. Early in her career, she was a member of the folk group, “The Chord Majority,” and founding member and lead singer of the “Good & Plenty” band.

Burgess is a member of the Court Street Baptist Church choir who also plays both organ and piano. He attended USM, majoring in music composition, and was a music intern at Disney World in Orland, Florida. He has served as rehearsal accompanist for Auburn’s Community Little Theater, music camp assistant at Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop, director of music camps at the China Lake Camp, and teacher of junior and senior high students for a private Christian group in Auburn.

The playing of the “Star Spangled Banner” will be performed on the Hook organ, the sanctuary Mason Hamlin baby grand piano, a Yamaha piano, and a Kurtzweil keyboard. A free-will offering will be accepted. Refreshments will be served during a fellowship time following the concert.
