JAY — Police said two men were charged Monday with stealing copper from two homes on Belleview Drive and Church Street since mid-June.

A joint investigation is ongoing among Jay, Livermore Falls and state police, and more people may faces charges, acting Jay police Chief Richard Caton IV said Tuesday.

Jay police arrested Zachary Givens, 23, of Jay on two felony counts of burglary and a felony count of aggravated criminal mischief, Caton said. Givens also was issued a summons on a misdemeanor charge of theft.

Police also arrested Justin Kendall, 34, of Livermore Falls on one felony count each of burglary and aggravated criminal mischief. He also was issued a summons on a misdemeanor charge of theft.

A conviction on a felony burglary charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.

Livermore Falls police have been investigating reports of copper being stolen from 11 houses when that were vacant or owners were away. The first report came in July 5.

No charges had been brought against individuals in those cases as of Tuesday morning.

Givens is being held on $15,000 cash bail and Kendall is being held on $5,000 cash bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.
