AUBURN — David Frank “Robie” Robinson, 76, a resident of Elmwood Road in Auburn, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Androscoggin Hospice House following a long illness, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston on March 3, 1938, the first son of Merle Sr. and Ella (Wentzel) Robinson. He was a 1958 graduate of Monmouth Academy.
He began his employment teaching short order cooking for the Job Corps in the 1960s. He then became part owner of the Big S Pizza Shop. He was also the assistant manager of the Steer House restaurants in Lewiston and South Portland. Throughout the years, he served as part owner of several Dunkin’ Donuts shops in Maine. In 1974, he relocated his family to North Carolina and owned three more Dunkin’ Donuts shops.
Robie came back to Maine in the early 1980s and became the general manager for U-Haul in Auburn for 25 years, until his retirement.
He was always an avid collector of classic cars. He restored several Ford Model-As and numerous cars over the years. Robie loved spending time with his grandchildren and loved his dog, Rosie.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Desjardins, whom he married on July 25, 1980; his children, Kim McKeage and Jeff, Amy Maddaloni and Mick, Penny Davis and Andy and Mary Robinson; his grandchildren, Brooks, Elise, Chloe, Emma and Anthony; and his brothers, Merle Jr. and Arthur.
He was predeceased by his mother and father.
