At the Lewiston Planning Board meeting a few weeks ago, Bates College got approval to build two dormitories that will house more than 200 students.

I feel that the college’s plan and Phyllis St. Laurent’s plan (to rebuild apartment houses) have the same problem — a lack of parking space.

What would be wrong with Bates College building one dormitory and then adding a parking garage to accommodate students’ cars? Same thing for St. Laurent — build a smaller project (maybe half the size) and use the rest of the space for parking for tenants.

Parking for vehicles has always been a problem for Bates College, and for the downtown area as well.
