CASCO — At the Raymond/Casco Historical Society’s Museum on Route 302, your pennies can help to build its endowment and keep the museum free for the public to enjoy for years to come.

The museum and society is a 501-c3 corporation allowing all and any donations to be fully tax deductible. The organization is 100 percent  staffed and operated by volunteers who value preserving local heritage and history.

Several years ago its members developed an endowment fund designed to eventually support the museum financially, and to help insure its continuing existence for future generations. This effort has been primarily funded through members, as well as public donations during tours and free monthly programs.

Organizers now seek all the pennies in Casco and Raymond to help build the endowment. If every family in this joint community effort participates by saving all their pennies for this cause, the museum should be able to remain free to the public. For anyone looking for a tax deductible gift of money, stocks, real estate or precious metals, the goal will be reached more quickly.

August is fundraising month for all museums, so the public is asked to make the pledge to “Save all your pennies” and bring them to the museum, which is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. from Memorial Day to Oct. 10.

The museum collects objects from Raymond and Casco as well as historic photos and written documents for its extensive research department. It features two buildings of early tools and equipment; a building filled with a classic car collection, an extensive research department and a growing Web presence under the town’s websites.
