1928 – 2014

LEWISTON — John Paul Mongeau died on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on July 17, 1928, a son of the late Adelard and Marie (Perrault) Mongeau, and was educated in Auburn schools. He worked as a firefighter for the Auburn Fire Department for 25 years, prior to his retirement, and was involved with Boy Scout Troop 111 for many years.

He loved fishing and spent a lot of time at Pittston Farm on Moosehead Lake. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours talking about “the old days.” He enjoyed the warm winters of Florida for 30 years, but Maine was his home in the summer.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Barbara Brown, whom he married on March 3, 1946; his son, Steve and his wife, Patricia Mongeau, of Poland; his daughters, Elaine Bourgoin of Poland and Donna Gelinas of Waterville; grandchildren, Marc Bourgoin, Matt Bourgoin and wife, Beth, Kathy Mongeau and Brian Charest, Odessa Bedard, Andrew Bedard and Robert Gelinas; three “Great” grandchildren, Corbin, Zack and Carter; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Keith and Marie Brown, Dottie McIntyre, Maurette and Louise Brown, James and Lynn Brown and Linda and Michael Bolduc; and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.

Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses in the intensive care unit at CMMC, as well as the nurses on M1. They all made his passing so much easier for the family.
